Friends Not Masters: A Political Autobiography

First person

Written by the country’s former President Mohammad Ayub Khan during his term in office, this autobiography and description of the major events in the history of Pakistan was first published in 1967. As you turn its pages, you’ll find him describing his upbringing in the northwest of undivided India, along with his years at Aligarh University and Sandhurst in England, as well as his service in the British-Indian army before and during the Second World War. The subject-matter widens to cover the political and military issues faced by the author as a senior military officer, following the creation of Pakistan in 1947. Several other events important to Ayub Khan as the country’s head are also discussed in this historical memoir.
