Don't fall for the trends blindly

With wild hairdos, drastic dyes, as well as messy haircuts, the year 2018 is witnessing hair trends like never before. Everything from the 80s and 90s has made a comeback, but how experimental can women in Pakistan go? MAG spoke to some of the most prominent celebrity make-up artists and hair stylists of Pakistan who let out the secrets to all things en vogue in the world of hairstyling and what one can pull off flawlessly!

Trends are for the masses, but it isn’t possible for everyone to pull off the look that’s trending, as one needs to keep in mind their age and face shape. So I wouldn’t advice people to just go and get their hair chopped just because it’s in fashion. What we do with actresses and models is different to what we tell our clients to experiment with. Be aware of what suits you before going for drastic makeover.

Hairstyles and haircuts would be blunt this year, lots of textures and different kinds of hairstyle and haircuts would be happening, like straight hiar, long bob, shoulder length textured blunt cuts would be really in and fringes would be back in fashion for summers, and they look trendy making you look younger.

Long bob is very in these days. Beach waves are also really in demand and most of the time clients want them done on their hair. As far as cuts and hairstyles are concerned, one cannot be restricted to following a certain criteria to make their hair stand out, it’s up to the client what they want to do.

Keep a check on cuts and colours

The year 2018 is all about short wavy hair with darker colours in for dyeing. Short hair, especially wavy and curly are a thing of 2018 and as far as colouring is concerned, darker shades of plum are all the rage, while one can even experiment with different tones of plum depending on what suits them the most.

When it comes to colouring your hair, one solid colour is what I would recommend, as it will look good even after years. Because when you experiment a lot with your hair colour then it might not go with certain occasions and moods. As a stylist, I prefer longer hair as it allows me to play around the area and style it the way I want to. With shorter hair, it’s really difficult to style as there isn’t any space to experiment with hairdos. For styling in Pakistan, how wild can one go? So it’s better to keep it as natural as possible.

Lots of hair colours are in and people are very experimental these days and they want to go for different shades of brown and warm tones, they’re also going towards cooler tones like platinum, ash, and colours like blues purples and pinks are also quite in. one can go with what suits their personality and complexion.

How to be a trend-setter

At the end of the day, it’s all about how your personality can carry a certain hairstyle or haircut. One cannot simply go blonde just because the colour was trending at a certain time. Keeping in mind the local climate and social norms, you need to be very choosy about what you opt for when it comes to colouring your hair. You can, however, pull off any hairstyle or haircut if you can flaunt your style confidently. Confidence is the key to rocking the look you feel is right for you!

I recommend girls to keep their hairs tied up given the weather that we have in Pakistan, especially Karachi. They can go with feather cuts and long layers to rock a trendy yet minimal look. Their hair can be tied up in a bun if they fancy, as it also looks very stylish.

Keeping in view the humid weather of Karachi there are some hairstyles that never work out. If you have frizzy hair you should never go for hairstyles that have too much volume to save your hair from getting frizzier. Go for a ponytail instead and get your hair straightened, to get a neat look. If your scalp doesn’t sweat than your pony won’t get frizzy. And if you hair is too silky, then don’t go for waves because the humid weather won't let you sustain the wavy hairs. If you’re going for curls and waves, make sure you tie your hair in anyway so it doesn’t turn into a mess. If you’re going out make sure your hair is tied up.
