World’s most charitable sports star – Cristiano Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo has been named the world's most charitable sports star, having donated millions of pounds of his fortune to worthy causes.

Ronaldo never got himself tattooed as he is a regular blood donor in his home country, Portugal. In 2010, he played a charity game organised by FC Porto to raise funds for floods which left at least 42 people dead in Madeira. Then in 2012, he donated his Golden boot worth €1.5 million to the Palestinian children in Gaza. In 2013, Ronaldo donated his Ballon d’Or trophy to charity, raising £600,000 for Make-a-Wish Foundation at an auction.

His philanthropic nature led him to donate several valuables along with $83,000 for the operation of a 10-month-old in need in 2014. Later, he provided tickets for his 10 to 13-year-old fans from impoverished backgrounds.

“We don’t want to tell our dreams. We want to show them,” said the iconic footballer Ronaldo.

In 2015, Ronaldo was honoured to be the Most Charitable athlete of the year for going above and beyond for charity work. In 2016, he also tweeted to raise awareness about millions of Syrian refugees that needed help. He donated his €600,000 UEFA prize money to a foundation that funds children’s cancer research the same year.
