A slice of urban cool in the wilderness of Atlantic Canada, the Fogo Island Inn is a striking design concept inspired by local traditions. The Inn boasts of 29 rooms with ocean views, the decor by top designers and the menus based on ‘wild things’ from the sea. The kitchen there offers innovative Newfoundland cuisine using seasonal ingredients, notably locally foraged berries, mushrooms and greens, and freshly caught fish and seafood. Everything is homemade, from bread to mustard. The inn manages to be both, designer and traditional; the furniture and textiles were made on the island, designed by top Canadian and European designers who were in turn inspired by local traditions. The result is a contemporary take on the outport aesthetic of Newfoundland fishing villages; uncluttered, understated and cool. Perched on a rocky island foreshore off Newfoundland, on Canada’s Atlantic seaboard, the Inn draws inspiration from the remote fishing community that surrounds it. And this can be your ultimate escape for a while.
