SCREENING OF WHAT WILL PEOPLE SAY

Doused in the tranquil atmosphere of Sheema Kermani’s garden was a small social gathering, hosted by the classical dancer to promote films and their influence on socio-political affairs of the society. Sheema held a screening of the unreleased film, What will People Say (WWPS) to initiate a thought-provoking dialogue. Films play an important role in highlighting inequality, injustice and inhumanity, and can offer hope and a vision for a better future. Along with Cinema for Peace, Sheema’s aim was to bring humanitarian issues to public attention by showcasing cinematic works which emphasise the human condition and values. The film centres around a young girl who is forced into marriage by her family. The film sets out the immigrant experience and the divide that inevitably happens between parents and children. The complex, emotionally harrowing experience that the film imparted on the audience was unforgettable.
