October 1 – International Day of Older Persons

This day is observed on October 1 each year. On December 14, 1990 the United Nations General Assembly voted to establish October 1 as the International Day of Older Persons as recorded in Resolution 45/106. The day reaffirms the commitment to promoting the full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms by older persons.

October 2 – International Day of Non-Violence

The International Day of Non-Violence is marked on 2 October, the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi, leader of the Indian independence movement and pioneer of the philosophy and strategy of non-violence. This day is an occasion to "disseminate the message of non-violence, through education and public awareness".

October 5 – World Teachers’ Day

This day commemorates the anniversary of the signing of the 1966 UNESCO/ILO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers, which constitutes the main reference framework for addressing teachers’ rights and responsibilities on a global scale. It brings together governments, multi- and bilateral organisations, NGOs, private sectors, teachers and experts in the field of teaching.
