After Gil Schaenzle’s daughter Anna Rose diet at 21 from a rare form of neuroendocrine cancer in March 2017, the grieving mother set out to hike, kayak and run through 50 national parks in her memory. “I wanted to carry on her spirit in that way,” says Schaenzle, 61, recalling how Anna had hoped to find a way to help others with neuroendocrine tumors (NET), Schanenzle finished her nine month journey at Rocky Mountain National Park and raised more than $11,000 for NET cancer research. “My prayer every day is that this will help save lives,” she says.
