Asim Azhar - Arguments Regarding Hadiqa!

You could, sometimes, envision a star as a legend on the basis of one shahkar, too! But, the argument, the young and bubbly pop crooner, started on the net regarding the status of our beautiful warbler, Hadiqa Kiyani, has attracted quite a few people from all walks of life. Should she be considered a legend or simply a star!

Talking of self, I have been an avid fan of this girl, who decided to commit herself to a life of continuous work in music, at a time, when there wasn’t many female singers around. The girls hardly made music their career in those days. So, Hadiqa took a very bold step to become a pop singer. The immediate model for her was, of course, Nazia Hasan, who took the sub-continent by storm. Before her, Noor Jehan was one of the legends of Pakistan. Roshan Ara Begum, Runa Laila, Iqbal Bano, Farida Khanum, Naseem Begum, and others are still on our horizons as legends.

So, Azhar, very pertinently, put up this question: can we call Hadiqa Kiyani a legend. The query came up like the soda surf from some of the opinions the netizens had put up about Hadiqa’s views on the matter of proposers to the single mothers. I am afraid Azhar is too young on the block to give any verdict on Hadiqa. He says, she is an icon, not a legend! For me, I’d say only time will tell. There are strong chances that Hadiqa will sing some numbers in future to make it to the list of music legends.

But, you can definitely say that Nazia Hasan was also one of our top pop icons. She never sang great poetry or experimental tunes to prove she was anything more than an icon. Well, an icon is no small person. Vital signs are icons; Junoon are icons; Rahat Fateh Ali is an icon; Shafqat Amanat is an icon. But, Nusrat Fateh Ali is a legend! That’s the difference! So, Hadiqa, too, needs some really great stuff in future to put her into the category of Runa Laila or Mehnaz. But, it’s too early to give this kind of verdict just yet!
