SOC Films releases short film about child marriage

News Briefs

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy Films has released its third installment of the animated series, Shattering the Silence, which focuses on initiating meaningful discourse around issues of child abuse.

It revolves around the story of a young girl, Mina, who is pulled out of school and married off at a young age. Through the course of the film, we see the physical and mental toll the early marriage has on the young girl, and subsequently, the limited opportunities that are available to women with no proper qualifications. We follow the little girl’s journey from a clueless young bride to a resilient woman.

Shattering the Silence is aimed at engaging audiences, especially children, with real-life stories of child abuse, and to educate them with the relevant laws and resources that exist, and the steps that can be taken if they, or anyone they know, is forced into marriage, labour, trafficking, or physical abuse.
