The Five

Supervised
Genre: Sci-fi

Supervised follows a group of retired international superheroes. They are adjusting to retirement at the Dunmanor nursing home in Ireland and their superpowers have been ‘downwardly managed’ for the safety of others. Ray (played by Berenger) is the once world renowned ‘Maximum Justice’ and finds himself battling against not only his enemies, but also the stigma and restrictions of old age. Will these retired superheroes be able to find the power within to win?

Gigantic
Genre: Animation

Set in Spain during the Age of Exploration, Disney’s Gigantic follows adventure-seeker Jack as he discovers a world of giants hidden within the clouds. He hatches a grand plan with Inma, a 60-foot-tall, 11-year-old girl, and agrees to help her find her way home.

Jiro Dreams of Sushi
Documentary

It doesn’t matter whether the thought of raw eel drenched in soy sauce makes you gag or drool, the story of Jiro Ono is an absolute joy to watch. One of the world’s greatest sushi chefs, his quest for culinary perfection at the age of 85 is the driving force of this cheerful documentary.

Christina Pazsitzky: Mother Inferior
Genre: Stand-up comedy

Speaking of motherhood, Canadian-American comic Christina Pazsitzky’s first Netflix special tackles the subject with a similarly disgusting-yet-distinct approach to Wong’s in Baby Cobra. Titled Mother Inferior, Pazsitzky adopts what the New York Times describes as “a nasal note in her voice evokes Roseanne Barr, whose ‘domestic goddess’ material touched on motherhood” in its own right.

Lloyd Cole: Guesswork
Music album

Guesswork mirrors the uncertainty of the world as you enter your third act. Guesswork is consistent with a record whose protagonists seem reluctant to venture confidently beyond the moment. Guesswork is also his shortest in terms of total words sung. This might come as a surprise to those who primarily remember Lloyd for the precocious literary pop dispatches of 1984’s Rattlesnakes, the debut album which earned him an unlikely place alongside Wham!
