Former One Direction frontman Harry Styles may be going under the sea for the remake of one our favourite Disney cartoons. The Sign of the Times crooner is in early negotiations to play Prince Eric in the live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid, reported The Hollywood Reporter.

The remake has already been under hot contention after African-American actor Halle Bailey was roped in to portray Ariel, a mermaid princess who dreams of being a human. Comedian and Bridemaids star Melissa McCarthy is also to play Ariel’s evil aunt Ursula. The Little Mermaid will be directed by Rob Marshall and written by David Magee. The upcoming film will incorporate the original songs from the 1989 animated classic we all love, as well as new tunes from original composer Alan Menken with lyrics by Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Jessica Virtue and Allison Erlikhman are overseeing for the studio. Miranda is also producing the film along with Marshall, Marc Platt and John DeLuca.
