Time is now to not admire the trends from a distance but jump ship and create the fabulous looks for this festive season

Holographic eyes

Playful and unconventional eye makeup has been trending for a while and Eid brings a perfect time to enjoy getting creative with your makeup. Experiment with the cat eye, not only trying out different shapes and angles, but also pairing it with unexpected colours.

Go for a modern look with a bold dot of colour on the apex of your lids.

Have fun with your eyeliner, experimenting with different colours, such as neons.

Gloss, gloss and some more gloss

For those of you feeling the dryness that the matte lipstick trend brought about, you will be happy to know that summer is now all about glossy lips. This is the complete opposite of the recent ultra-matte trend, so now is the time to take advantage of the many hydrating glossy lip formulas out there.

Cheek glosses are becoming increasingly popular. These give the skin an almost glass-like finish, creating a beautiful luminous glow. Their consistency is usually that of a lightweight balm, and while it does absorb into the skin, its slick and glossy finish remains on the surface all day.

You can shimmer, not just glitter

Glitter was a huge makeup trend found in abundance on the runways last year, but for the current season we are toning this down a bit, with a shimmer being more appropriate than full-on glitter. A shimmer gives your face a subtle glimmer, rather than the emphasized sparkle that glitter provides.

Classic red pout

Red lips are such a classic look, and is one that will never really go out of style. Different shades of red are now in the limelight, and recent years have seen the brighter and lighter shades really stand out.

If you prefer to go for a subtler finish for your red lips, try a ‘blotted velvet’ texture instead. There are quite a few brands now offering blotted lipsticks. These give you a freshly-blotted finish, but without you having to actually blot your lips.

Flushed Cheeks

Many makeup artists would agree that blush is quite an underrated makeup product, but summer looks were ready to change this. Blush is now being brought into the spotlight, and for good reason too! Not only does a blush add some extra colour and dimension to the face, but it can also highlight, contour and give you a rosy glow.

Never quite sure how to apply blush?

This all depends on the type of look you are going for, but here are a few tips:

• For a natural look – dab your blush onto the apples of your cheeks.

• For a dramatic look – try draping your blush from your temples down across your cheekbones.

• For a rosy flush – apply your blush just under your eyes, so that it is higher up on your cheeks, and then blend it in well. Cream or gel formulas tend to be best for this look.

• For a sculpted look – blush can be used to contour your face. Simply apply it onto, and above, your cheekbones, in the same areas you would usually place a highlighter.
