Firdous Jamal is cancelled for being “ageist”

PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT…

It all started from Faysal Qureshi’s show where veteran actor Firdous Jamal articulated some very sexist and ageist words against Mahira Khan. The 65-year-old actor declared that, “Mahira is not heroine stuff. She's a mediocre sort of a model,” adding that “she's quite aged as well and we don't have heroines at this age, they only play the characters of mothers". Fans and fraternity clapped back at Jamal’s comments and completely nullified them. Celebrities like Osman Khalid Butt, Mawra Hocane and Humayun Saeed joined the ranks in her support. The strongest response however came from acclaimed producer Momina Duraid who unquestionably cancelled Jamal. In her Instagram story Duraid disseminated, “my company, MD productions would not work with him again in any capacity because of his sexist, regressive and discriminatory attitude.” She further stressed that is ashamed for calling Jamal a part of the industry’s fraternity.

Shaan Shahid had severe reservations on the matter and was quick to take to Twitter with the hashtag #LetsBringOurPrideBack in support of Jamal. Shan tweeted; "An artist lives in his own zone, he speaks his own language. His choice of words might be hated but his endless dedication to his work & his brilliance in acting can never be disrespected."

Khaani actor, Feroze Khan also shared his objections against the producer’s declaration, leaving an open-ended question for many to muse: "Is this where freedom of speech gets you? Getting someone's bread and butter cancelled?"
