Facebook: Testing Snapchat 2.0 yet again?

SOCIAL MEDIA NEWS

Yes, again. And, once again, Facebook's latest effort to take on Snap is centered around Instagram. That's according to The Verge, which reports that Instagram has been testing "Threads," a new, separate app based around Instagram users' "close friends" lists. The app is "designed to promote constant, automatic sharing between users," says The Verge, which has published mock-ups of the app based on screenshots of the unreleased app. The images show a single feed where you can view friends' Stories or brief "statuses." These status updates can be generated automatically based on what you're doing, your location, how fast you're traveling (if you're "on the move,") or manually. It's not clear when or if Threads might launch. The app is being tested with Facebook employees, according to the report, though the company often tests new features that never roll out more widely. It's also been reported that Instagram previously built dedicated apps for private messaging and shopping, both of which have been reportedly shelved.

Pinterest: New insights available

Pinterest searches for topics like "get organised" tend to spike early in the new year, when resolutions are in full swing. But Pinterest says that these types of positive trends actually spike two times per year – once in the New Year period, then again before fall, as people seek inspiration "after an energising summer". That insight can help in your strategic planning – knowing when people are more open to new, fresh ideas, and the subjects they’re looking for, could help you develop a more effective Pin posting process, and maximise your efforts. To help with this, Pinterest has this week released a new set of data insights into a range of trends which see spikes throughout the year, and are on the rise again right now.
