Authorities clean up the beach after Shaneira Akram’s viral tweets

PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT…

Last week Shaneira Akram, Head of the Akram Foundation and a regular visitor to the Karachi beaches, discovered medical waste washed up on the shores, post the monsoon rains in the city. She declared the Clifton beach to be in a state of an unofficial emergency by sharing images and videos of used syringes, vials of blood samples and other bio-hazard waste dumped at Sea View. She had also urged relevant authorities to step up and clean the garbage as soon as possible, and the beach in fact was being cleaned up on urgent basis. Senior officials from the Cantonment Board Clifton (CBC), DHA and the Sindh Police rushed to the beach in an effort to rid it of the hazardous waste.
