Hamza Bangash bags first prize for his debut film at Busan Film Festival

Here is another Pakistani filmmaker who has won big at the Busan International Film Festival. The Pakistani-Canadian writer and director from Karachi, Hamza Bangash secures first prize for his debut feature film – Mariam – in the MPA-AFA category. The Asian Film Academy (AFA) and Motion Picture Association (MPA) prize grants the first place winner a five-day Immersion Program trip to Los Angeles, USA where Hamza will pitch his film to US-based producers. The filmmaker shared the joyous news on Instagram and also disclosed that after this win he is all set to take his film to Los Angeles. After Sarmad Sultan Khoosat’s win, this is the second Pakistani film to win, big at a festival and we are proud. Speaking to MAG, a joyous Hamza shared, “Pakistani audiences are smart, capable consumers- desperate for intelligent content that tells unique stories. Cinema is meant to be thought-provoking – but also to entertain.”
