Coldplay pays homage to Amjad Sabri

In Memoir

British musical band, Coldplay recently released its new album titled, Everyday Life and is currently on a musical tour. Fans and admirers in Pakistan were delighted (and surprised!) to see the band pay an endearing tribute to the legendary qawwal, the late Amjad Sabri. Lead vocalist Chris Martin revealed in an interview that in one of the tracks – Church – the band has incorporated samples from Sabri’s popular track Jaga Ji Laganay. He said, “There are two other cool singers on that one. There’s this guy, a Pakistani singer called Amjad Sabri. He was sadly murdered by people who didn’t like what he stood for. Then there’s a friend of ours Norah, who is a girl from Jerusalem.” This is certainly a thrilling news for Amjad Sabri fans!
