V Wars, a series based on Jonathan Maberry’s book series has been released recently on Netflix. Dr Luther Swann (Ian Somerhalder) is lecturing climate scientists about how he believes the most pressing threat to humans is ancient pathogens that are being released by melting polar ice caps. After the lecture, he’s ready to celebrate his anniversary with his wife Jess (Jessica Harmon), when he’s called away to investigate the breakdown in communications with the Arctic station. His good friend Michael Fayne (Adrian Holmes) gets him to the station, and the two of them find something horrifying. Swann knows exactly what’s next: They’ve been exposed and they have to go back to the States for quarantine. During the quarantine, both feel sick but no other symptoms. Both are released when the results come back that say it’s just a “prehistoric cold.” But what happens next will be really interesting to watch. V Wars isn’t horrible at all, especially compared to some of the slapped-together sci-fi/horror shows we’ve seen on Netflix and contains a lot of twists and turns which makes this show worth a watch. It’s one of those shows where the acting outstrips the writing. What can be most appreciated is that the performances from Somerhalder and the cast are grounded in the real world, despite the fact that this virus is going to create a population of vampires. That often doesn’t happen in shows like this, and it makes things even more watchable.

It surely is a binge-watch for fiction lovers.
