This year, the Golden Globes kicked off the film industry’s awards season in earnest and took place in California. Hosted by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the show is known for its relatively relaxed atmosphere. Adding to the show stopping looks, controversial hosts, rousing political speeches and you have one of the most memorable awards ceremonies – this year was no different. Not to forget that Beyoncé and Jay-Z opted out of the red carpet and entered via the VVVIP entrance an hour into the ceremony. Phoebe Waller-Bridge turned the spotlight to Australia’s bushfire crisis. The star announced that she would auction her haute couture suit to raise money for relief funds. British comedian Ricky Gervais returned to host the Golden Globes for a record fifth time. Renée Zellweger and Joaquin Phoenix won the lead acting awards; while Fleabag and Succession each took home two awards. The lifetime achievement honorees were Tom Hanks and Ellen DeGeneres. While there was no dress code for the awards, floor-sweeping gowns, embellished haute couture and grazing hemlines graced the red carpet for one of the most glamorous nights in entertainment.
