A real treat for bakers.

Fans of shows like The Great British Baking Show and Netflix's Nailed It may have filled the void in between seasons by watching the addictive Australian reality series Zumbo's Just Desserts. Back in 2017, it felt like Zumbo’s Just Desserts, a technicolour carnival of over-the-top bakes starring Australia’s star pastry chef Adriano Zumbo, might be Netflix’s homegrown answer to the success of The Great British Baking Show. Like that gentle series, Zumbo’s Just Desserts invited amateur bakers to show off their skills in a weekly competition format. But it was a little more ruthless. The stronger bakers from the earlier rounds would get to sit back in thrones of honour while the bottom two duke it out in an attempt to recreate one of Chef Adriano Zumbo’s mind-bending desserts. Even if Zumbo’s Just Desserts sounds stressful, its Willy Wonka-aesthetic still made it feel playful. In turn, it soon became one of Netflix’s most binge-able shows. The Netflix series combined traditional baking challenges with unique twists, and the competition was filmed on a set that looked like it belonged in Willy Wonka's Chocolate Factory. Hosted by baker Adriano Zumbo and British host Rachel Khoo, the show takes people with regular jobs and gives them a shot at the title and a prize. To win, bakers must first do well during the main challenge, aka the Sweet Sensations challenge. The baker with the lowest score goes home. The stakes were high in the second season of the reality series. Things only got more complicated from the first challenge.
