Why you shouldn’t skip the sunscreen

Most people like to ease up on sunscreen as the sun feels weaker. Surprisingly, sun rays work in a mysterious way in winters too. UVB are present in the sunniest hours, might not reach directly but tend to reflect easily from surfaces like snow, while UVA can cross through clouds easily.

UVB causes redness and burn whereas UVA penetrates deep down into the dermis and causes ageing, bringing us to a conclusion that a moisturising broad spectrum sunscreen is necessary even on darker, dreary days of winter.

Adding foods like fish and flaxseed oil to your diet which are rich in omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids, helps to improve dry skin conditions. Many people benefit by adding oral moisturisers too. Don’t forget to keep yourself well hydrated. •
