From Graham Norton's opening monologue to Laura Dern's incredible speech, once again, there were plenty of show stopping highlights at this year's British Academy Film Awards, which took place at Royal Albert Hall. 1917 dominated the award ceremony, picking up an impressive seven awards. Here are some of the highlights from this year's starry show. The Irishman star Al Pacino suffered a dramatic fall on the red carpet. The Hollywood legend, 79, was walking towards the Royal Albert Hall in London when he took a tumble and was helped up by those around him. The TV presenter's opening monologue was filled with references to the diversity controversy which has been a talking point of this year's awards season. He called this "the year when white men finally broke through." While not every presenter won the crowd round, Cats star Rebel Wilson soon had them eating out of her palm in a barnstorming speech that poked fun at her own critically-derided movie. Moreover, said that she had sustainably made her dress from two old ones. After (unsurprisingly) winning the Best Actor award, Joker’s Joaquin Phoenix made a powerful statement about the lack of diversity in the nominees as this year, no non-white actors were nominated. After some pretty heavy speeches, everybody needed some relief. Luckily, Hugh Grant was in attendance – and at the end of the night, Renée Zellweger’s win for Best Actress just got better.
