A rundown

In honour of women’s week, MAG brings its readers a rundown of contributions to social and environmental causes from women to highlight untiring efforts and unrecognised talent. Last month, social media was ablaze and all praises for women ranging from university students to alumna who showed the world groundbreaking inventions and more so, the capability of women to do so. 

Sewing machine for the visually impaired

Aqsa Ajmal, a graduate in Industrial Design from NUST made headlines by inventing a sewing tool and presenting it for the Lexus Design Award 2020, a platform that encourages young creators to invent and initiate new concepts.

Smart shoes

Shanza Munir, an IT student from Government College University Faisalabad invented smart shoes, also for the visually impaired. The smart shoes can detect obstacles within a 200cm radius and vibrate to alarm the wearer. The shoes were developed as part of the university project.



World’s first eco-friendly aircraft engine

Dr Sarah Qureshi, a NUST alumna make a breakthrough in aerospace engineering that will aid air pollution. Dr Qureshi is also the first female mechanical engineering graduate at NUST. She has worked on this project for two years now and the official launch has been decided for later this year.
