First of all, I don’t like the idea of a cheat meal. There’s no good or bad/cheat food. It’s up to us. How we consume food matters. I’ve probably said this for a hundred times now that one should follow the 80/20 rule. 80 per cent of your calories should come from healthy, nutritious food and 20 per cent from the foods you love to eat and crave for. This way you won’t have to deprive yourself from anything delicious.
Yes, food isn't just food. It has a lot of information on how our body would perform. Try adding these foods in your daily life and you'll eventually notice how they lift up your mood:
• Grapes
• Omega-3 supplements or Omega-3 rich fish
• Sunflower seeds
• Oats
• Banana
• Milk and cashews
Yes, they are. Diet sodas have a lot of additives, preservatives and hidden synthetic sugar. These sugars don’t release insulin, which of course doesn’t cause our blood sugars to go up. This might sound great but it’s not. If our bodies don’t stimulate the release of insulin, those sugars go straight to the liver and build up around it; which affects the functioning of liver leading to liver diseases.
Diabetics should include complex carbohydrates, protein and healthy fats in their diet. They should avoid simple carbs, low protein diets and vegetable oils.
It mostly depends on your requirements. Your first priority should be a balanced diet. Although a few that you must include are:
• Vitamin D
• Omega-3 fatty acids
• Calcium
• Probiotics
• Zinc
