Facebook: Create 3D images without a portrait camera

Social media news

Imagine if every photo in your Facebook news feed looked alive, like something out of a Harry Potter universe newspaper. That's the reality Facebook is moving toward with a new feature that makes 3D photos available to everyone. First launched in 2018, the feature let people give their photos the appearance of a "moving" 3D background, provided the source image was shot using some manner of portrait mode. Support for 3D photos arrived on Facebook right around the time that dual-lens smartphone cameras popularised the feature called portrait mode, which captures a foreground subject in great detail while artistically blurring the background. Facebook's platform could then use the extra data in those image files to create an enhanced image in which the background appears to move.

Pinterest Lite coming on Android

Pinterest’s data friendly version, Pinterest Lite app is getting a global roll out for the Android devices. The lite version has been available in selective regions (Argentina, Colombia, Chile, Peru and Mexico), since the end of last year. This version of the app has majority of the features of the main app, while consuming lesser space on your mobile device and can quickly download even in areas with problematic internet services. The revamped version ensures that users have a uniform experience all across the versions. Android is the most popular operating system in Asia and therefore, adding a more data friendly version will further increase the platform’s footprint. All the major social media apps have a lite version to get more global footprint and Pinterest has timed its addition at the right time.
