The world on a pause

In light of a pandemic and a global emergency, isolation and social distancing are words that are reiterated by news headlines. While the world had been pushing the limits advised and happenings have throttled on, cancellations of mass gatherings and lockdowns in entire countries have ensued finally, forcing the world to take a break. Most world events including film festivals, film productions and fashion weeks have been delayed or cancelled. Here’s a rundown of everything that is NOT happening in Pakistan… at least for now.

Fashion Pakistan Week

Previously scheduled starting from 9 April to run for three days, the most awaited fashion show by the Fashion Pakistan Council has been postponed. In a statement to the press, Chairperson Maheen Khan said, “At this time of a global pandemic, we will assess the situation later during the year, with regards to the rescheduling of Fashion Pakistan Week 2020. We’ve informed our designers and sponsors who agree with our decision and together we’ll reassess later in the year.”

Shaan-e-Pakistan

The destination festival scheduled to be held in Colombo, Sri Lanka on the 21 to 23 March has also been postponed. Founder Huma Nasr shared amidst ongoing preparation that the event will be delayed until further notice. “We are all very passionate about promoting Pakistan in the best possible light, as we have been doing for the past four seasons. Unfortunately the Corona Virus outbreak is a global pandemic that we must take seriously and therefore, in the better interest of our delegates as well as guests, we have decided to postpone the event. Inshallah we will continue working on it, and will return even stronger, once the travel advisories are lifted.”

PSL5

Applauding the cricket board’s efforts to finally achieve the goal of bringing cricket back to the country, it was also affected by the ongoing pandemic. For public health safety, the federal government announced that the matches will be played without a crowd. According to reports, a number of overseas cricketers, including a contingent of English players, will be flying back from the PSL. Peshawar Zalmi’s Tom Banton, Liam Livingstone, Lewis Gregory and Carlos Brathwaite, as well as Multan Sultans’ James Vince and Karachi Kings’ Alex Hales, are among the first players to confirm their departures.
