Pakistan’s elitism

#peoplearetalkingabout

You must know of the case of corona positive patient mishandling by top designer Maria B. If not, there’s no way you missed the memes. Maria B uploaded an unclear video which happened to be a plea to the Prime Minister for her husband’s bail who was arrested in the dark of the night. Not a day later, bailed husband Tahir Saeed and Maria B upload a video, rather ill-scripted, explaining the whole scenario, flashing their lacking social responsibility by allowing a positive tested patient to go outdoors by public buses all the way to Vehari from Lahore. Anyone with access to Google can find out the precautionary measures with a tap on a screen but the elites blamed the authorities for lack of guidance and sent their domestic help anyway. At this sensitive and unprecedented times, their actions led to a waste of resources and endangering god knows how many people who may or may not have the financial strength or awareness to seek medical attention.

Moreover, interestingly, founder of Digital Rights Foundation Nighat Dad took to Twitter to address a tweet from July 2018 about being invited to be a part of an unnamed brand campaign on women empowerment. Dad says she asked to see the labour policies in the manufacturing units which they refused. On 25 March after the entire fiasco, the lawyer digs out the tweet and writes, “I didn’t name the brand in the past but I will now, it’s Maria B.” – Editorial Desk
