Mayuko Matsumoto, an 82-year-old elderly woman was found bleeding profusely in her home in Mifune, southern Japan. She is left unable to speak after apparently being set upon by a stray cat, which has now been identified as the prime suspect in her attempted murder.

The octogenarian was found by her daughter with about 20 cuts to her face and Police has launched an attempted murder investigation after seeing her wounds, some of which were really severe. “When we found her, blood covered everything above her chin. Her face was soaked in blood. I don't know what happened,” said the daughter of the elderly woman, who is bedridden and reportedly unable to speak about the attack, as she had to receive emergency care. Investigators have found no sign of forced entry into the house, but suspected the elderly woman's wounds had been caused by a cat. Police has found traces of what could be human blood on one of a number of stray cats found around Matsumoto's home.
