VOICE OF REASON

“Pakistanis are not taking the pandemic seriously,” says Bushra Ansari

Veteran actress Bushra Ansari is in Toronto and reveals that she has no plans to return to Pakistan until the citizens starts to take the pandemic seriously. In a video shared on her social media platform, the actress said, “I can’t help but miss Pakistan and I can't return because you all are roaming the bazaars.” She further added, "You all do not understand, you're treating this as fake or a joke. And because of that, it has spread so much and we are stuck here wondering when and how to return. We're scared; and people are telling us not to go back. I can't return because of you." The actress pleaded with the people to stay home to curb the spread of the virus. As the country reports its cases to reach almost 80,000 now, it is necessary for the people to get their actions right and start taking all the precautions, for their loved ones if not for themselves.

Elan’s latest lawn campaign came under fire for being ‘racist’

All eyes start to roll upon the lawn campaigns every year, as the season approaches. Lawn is a big deal in the country when it comes to big labels as well as for the customers. Lawn campaigns can be an instant hit, and sometimes also face backlash for being controversial. Elan’s lawn campaign came under fire recently for using an African male model ‘as a prop’. Following the outrage on social media, the CEO and creative head for the label, Khadijah Shah took to Twitter to explain the concept behind the campaign, “It’s heartening to see that we stand against racism and cultural misappropriation, but at the same time we must know what these terms mean.” Then, she went on to define the terms and how it is not right to associate racism with the designer’s campaign. Mushk Kaleem who featured in the campaign expressed, “This campaign is so close to my heart and with its launch, it is extremely sad to see all the negativity that is pouring in.” The model further wrote, “Gabriel Fords, who is as much a vital part of this campaign as I am, is not a prop or an accessory. This entire shoot screams inclusivity. It is about bridging cultures, about educating people about the normalcy of an interracial love.” Twitter remains divided on the stance of the model and the brand.
