For the last few years, we've been living in a matte, matte world. Our makeup bags were overflowing with liquid lipsticks and eyeshadows promising the most luscious velvet finish. We were so head over heels for matte that we basically forgot about other finishes. Whoops. Now that we've reached matte saturation, it's no surprise that gloss is making a comeback.

The newest lip glosses barely resemble the sticky, gooey stuff you remember from school dances and slumber party makeovers. Eye and face glosses are also tempting the most dedicated matte-lover to embrace a dewy look. But to some, a full face of gloss might seem like a sticky mess – especially as the weather warms up. And just because something is trendy, doesn’t mean it’s what will work best for you.

So, to help you decide whether you are Team Matte or Team Glossy, we have compiled five best products each, for a glossy finish and a matte finish.

Have a look!

Five best products for dewy finishes

Armani Luminous Silk Foundation

The name says it all! Beautiful, luxurious finish but not greasy. Simply the best.

Rodin Olio Lusso Luxury Face Oil

The top oil in the market; it smells like heaven. It’s smooth and ultra moisturising for the perfect dewy finish.

RMS Cream Eyeshadow

Beautiful shades with subtle shimmer that are buildable and sultry.

NYX Dose of Dew Face Gloss

Expecting a liquid or jelly formula? Don't be thrown by the solid stick. Swipe it on skin and the lightweight, silky formula delivers a dewy – not oily – finish.

NARS Satin
Lip Pencils

Highly pigmented and a beautiful range of colours. Easy to use and mix together; very modern.

Five best products for matte finishes

NARS Matte Velvet
Lip Pencils

Beautiful shades and easy to apply. Dragon Girl is a must for red lovers.

NARS Matte Eyeshadows

Coconut Grove and Blondie are just a few of our favourites. They are pigmented, easily blendable, and come in a great range of colours.

Benefit Bronzer in Hoola

It’s matte, not at all orangey, and is basically universal. Also doubles as a great contour.

Mac Prep and Prime Loose Powder

It’s finely milled and totally invisible. It won’t change the shade of your foundation or look chalky and white.

Armani Silk Eye Pencils

They are matte but easy to use and blend and smudge. All of the colours are great.
