Every year, summers take a toll on the skin and hair. The scorching heat, pollution, humidity, et al, wipes the skin of the natural glow, and wreak havoc on the hair. To avoid all these hassles, and to beat the heat damage, can you give some quick and helpful tips to follow this season?

First of all, to protect your skin in this scorching heat you need to cleanse every night as per your skin type. If you have dry skin, use products consisting of a hydrating formula. If you have an oily skin, use oil-control products and the same goes for the hair. Use good hydrating shampoos and conditioners that are dermatologically approved.

Is it better for the hair to change the shampoo and conditioner one uses every few months?

Yes, please change your shampoo and conditioner as per current weather conditions because it affects your scalp, and the wrong choice could damage your scalp and your hair.

Between a cleanser, moisturiser, night cream, and eye cream, where does it make sense to spend the big bucks?

Never compromise on your cleanser and moisturiser.

I’ve heard some people say sunscreen before moisturiser while others say moisturiser before sunscreen. Does sunscreen go on before or after moisturiser?

First, use sunscreen and after 15 minutes you can use a moisturiser that suits your skin type.

I know I should reapply sunscreen at least every two hours, but what if I'm already wearing makeup?

If you want to protect your skin you have to apply sunscreen after every three hours and then reapply makeup for best results.

Due to the summer heat my already curly hair become very frizzy. How can I control frizz?

Please don’t wash your hair every day, also use hair SPF to protect your hair against sun damage and avoid applying heat frequently.

Some people are of the opinion that washing your hair too much damages them. How true is that? How many times a week should you wash your hair?

Too much shampooing can further lead to dry cuticles and split ends. You can wash your hair thrice a week with natural shampoos. Also, try to use chemical-free products to prevent further damage your hair.

What can I do to prevent my scalp from getting super greasy?

Take proper hair proteins and some home remedies like yogurt. Yogurt has inherent cooling and anti-inflammatory properties, and prevents the scalp from getting too oily.
