ASK A DIETITIAN

It is becoming widely known that yellow and green vegetables and cruciferous veggies contain a number of compounds that help protect against cancer. Carrots, cauliflower, cabbage, are a few that belong to these families. I would like to know if other vegetables that haven’t gotten as much publicity also contain anti-cancer compounds?

All vegetables have nutrients. You should eat all of them but in moderation. We can't treat any disease by consuming a single food.

My daughter is eight years old. A few months ago her hair started graying. It is getting worse day by day. Overall she has no health issues. But she was born premature. I’ve been told that the premature graying is because of her diet. Can you recommend a healthy diet for an eight year old with a similar problem?

Make sure she eats a magnesium, selenium, zinc and iron rich diet. Include nuts, vegetables and red meat in her diet.

I have PCOS and I was wondering what food I should try to lose weight effectively.

First of all, eat in calorie deficit. Avoid all kinds of processed and junk foods.

I’m a 24 year old with a high blood pressure problem. Can you please recommend what I should be eating and what I shouldn’t be eating to control my blood pressure?

Increase your physical activity. Workout at least four days a week. And eliminate processed foods from your diet. Reduce your salt intake too.

My mother was recently tested and her sugar level was borderline. Is there any way she can be prevented from being diabetic?

She might have type 2 diabetes. And it can be reversed.

Tell her to contact a registered dietitian.
